About the Prizes
Prizes will be awarded to the sixteen (16) semifinalists who advance to the onsite Semifinal and Championship round portion of the tournament. To advance to the onsite
Semifinal and Championship rounds, contestants must first successfully compete in the online Regional rounds. TopCoder will pay for reasonable transportation and
accommodation costs for each contestant competing in the onsite Semifinal and Championship rounds in Cambridge, MA, and a guest of his/her choice. A contestant must be
present, in person, at the onsite Semifinal and Championship rounds in order to advance or to receive any prizes. Prizes are structured as follows:
Online Regional Final Round
Wednesday, March 13, 2002 (8 coders per region compete in 1 room). The winner of the room (the "Regional Champion") wins the following:
- $5,000 **
- Automatic bid to the onsite Semifinal round
NOTE: All Regional Champions must participate in the onsite Semifinal rounds to receive prizes.
Semifinal Rounds (onsite at the University Park Hotel @ MIT):
Friday, April 19, 2002 (16 coders compete - 4 advance). The 16 Semifinalists will be split into 4 rooms. The winner of each room
advances to the Championship round. The 12 non-advancing semifinalists will win $1,000** each.
Championship Round (onsite at the University Park Hotel @ MIT):
Saturday, April 20, 2002 (4 coders compete - 1 wins). Within the final group of 4:
- 4th place prize $5,000**
- 3rd place prize $8,000**
- 2nd place prize $25,000**
- Grand Prize (1st place) wins $100,000**
** All prizes will be awarded at the conclusion of the final onsite round of competition. All winners must be present at the onsite rounds to receive their prizes. Any and all
applicable taxes on prizes including bringing a guest to the onsite rounds are the sole responsibility of the prizewinner.
