June 29, 2017 ISPIM Grand Prize 2017: And the Winner Is…

Since 2015, the International Society for Professional Innovation Management (ISPIM) — an association of members from research, industry, consulting, and the public sector all focused on stimulating economic growth through innovation management — has recognized great achievements in innovation each year; with great innovation comes great products, services, and competition.
In 2015, SunShot Catalyst, a competition series developed by the U.S. Department of Energy in partnership with Topcoder, won the top award. SunShot helped launch a number of cutting-edge solar companies to offer solutions for the challenges of today’s solar marketplace. The 2016 winner was Imagine With Orange, a crowd innovation platform and launchpad for entrepreneurs around the world. And this year, two of the four finalists worked with Topcoder to bring their innovation initiatives to life.

The ISPIM Grand Prize 2017 for Excellence in Innovation Management

On June 19th, these four finalists presented live to a voting audience of 400+ experts in innovation:

  • Fraunhofer — Joseph’s offline co-creation and innovation at work. Named after the founder of Fraunhofer institutes, Joseph’s is a drop-in innovation lab with an open workspace that facilitates direct interaction and co-creation.
  • GE — GENIUSLINK. GENIUSLINK is GE’s team of crowd-powered business experts; they provide customers with a new way to accomplish things better, faster, and cheaper.
  • Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) — the Living Progress Challenge. The Living Progress Challenge is an innovative program that sought to create digital solutions that improve people’s lives; four winning teams were selected to complete development of their apps with the Topcoder Community.
  • IBM — the THINKLab Galaxy. IBM’s THINKLab is a meeting place between decision-making customers and IBM’s best scientists, which serves to solve business and technical challenges.

With fierce competition, the winner of the coveted ISPIM Grand Prize 2017 for Excellence in Innovation Management was… HPE!

HPE + Topcoder: the Living Progress Challenge

Throughout 2016, Topcoder worked with HPE on the Living Progress Challenge. To kickstart the initiative, HPE asked the global community to submit ideas and proposals that addressed an important question: what software tools and applications would you create to improve people’s lives? The proposals (of which there were over 130) ranged from tackling healthcare to social justice to wildlife preservation and beyond. In the end, four radically different apps won development and design support from the Topcoder Marketplace — apps with the ability to affect change on a global scale.

Congratulations to HPE and to all of this year’s finalists! Each ISPIM Grand Prize 2017 finalist championed innovation in new and exciting ways, and we’re thrilled to have been involved in several of these winning initiatives.
