Welcome to Topcoder design practice challenge! If you are new and just joining Topcoder, this challenge is the perfect starting point for you to understand how to participate and compete in Topcoder Design track competition.

In this challenge, we will provide instructions and ask you to show off your design skills so we can help you to set the expectation level regarding design quality to win a challenge at Topcoder design track.

SCREEN REQUIREMENTS

00) Registration and Challenge Environment Instructions

  • Register to the challenge by clicking the “Register” green button in this challenge page.
  • After you registered to the challenge, pay attention to the timeline area (dark section), majority of design challenges at Topcoder usually using the two-round format that have these phases:
    • Registration - phase where you can register to the challenge
    • 1st Round/Checkpoint Submission - phase where you can working on the requirements and submit to the challenge
    • Checkpoint Screening - phase where your checkpoint design submission will be checked by topcoder design screener for copyright and policy issues
    • Checkpoint Review - phase where client will review submissions from round one and provide feedback
    • 2nd Round/Final Submission - phase where all first-round submitters can work and submit their design work after applying the checkpoint feedback received from client
    • Final Screening - phase where your final design submission will be checked by topcoder design screener for copyright and policy issues
    • Final Review - phase where client will review your design work and select the challenge winners
    • Winners Announcement - phase where copilots announce challenge winners and post feedback for all members
    • Final fix - phase where challenge winners working on design updates because their design missing a requirements or have minor design elements that needs to be adjusted
    • Approval - phase where design updates from challenge winners being reviewed by clients to get approval
  • In some special cases, design challenges can use one round format. Usually, this format type is used for challenges that have really tight deadlines. For one round challenge format, you will only have the “Submission” phase without the “checkpoint” phase involved, while the other phases will remain the same.
  • After you register for this challenge, check the tab sections area, you will see a tab called “Challenge Discussion”, clicking that link will open the challenge forum page where you can ask anything related to the challenge requirements, clients and copilot will clarify any of your questions in the challenge forum in a reasonable time (less than 12 hours).

01) My Property Listing Page

  • Now let’s start with some design practice exercises and showcase your skills to us.
  • Once you are done with your design creation, please submit your design work on this page by clicking the “Submit” green button from the top of the page.
  • Our team will provide feedback regarding your design work and give some ideas whether your design already meets the quality to win a challenge or if it needs some improvements.
  • Here is the design practice exercise requirements - create a property list page for a potential buyer/renter that is looking for perfect property in their city, this page should able to cover the following features:
    • Ability to view list of Properties available for Sale or/and Rent in their city
    • Ability to view property information details, such as the property specs (rooms, amenities, garage, sizes, etc), prices, address, google map, property photos or videos gallery, surrounding areas, etc
    • Ability to search for property based on their specific criteria (e.g., location, price, features, etc) so they can narrow down the results to those that meet their needs
    • Save property as their favorites so they can easily find the ones they interested in and check changes in price
    • See the Status of a property listing (Just Listed, Price Change, Offer Pending, etc) so they can know if anything about it has changed
    • Ability to share a property listing with friends/family so they can ask their feedback and opinion regarding the property
    • Ability to rate a listing (entire or room-by-room) as they view it and/or tour it and have their Agent see that information so the agent know what they like

  • Web/Desktop application
  • Web/Desktop: 1400px width with height adjusted accordingly

DESIGN GOALS AND PRINCIPLES

  • Follow best practice for Web/Desktop app
  • Seamless Navigation and enhanced Features
  • Reduce the number of interactions required from users as much as possible
  • Use color or great visual comparison to highlight a comparison of important information
  • Intuitive for the user; should never be left asking "what do I do next?"
  • Easy viewing for pages that may be over overcrowded with information
  • Keep things consistent. This means all graphics styles should work together
  • All of the graphics should have a similar feel and general aesthetic appearance

BRANDING GUIDELINES

  • Open to designers - Feel free to create your best work for the screen

JUDGING CRITERIA

  • Creativity: Impactful - the solution is different or unique from what is already out there and can be implemented
  • Exploration: Flexible - follow the provided screen requirements section and propose improvements or different paths that positively impact the user goals
  • Aesthetics: Hi-fidelity design - provide a top-notch finished looking visual design
  • Branding: Open - propose a fresh new branding option

MARVEL PROTOTYPE

  • We need you to upload your screens to MarvelApp
  • Please request your MarvelApp prototype in the respective thread in the challenge forum
  • You MUST include your Marvelapp URL (in your marvel app prototype, click on share and then copy the link & share it with your notes/comment this link while you upload)

FINAL DELIVERABLES

Submission File

  • Submit JPG/PNG image files based on Challenge submission requirements stated above
  • Create Marvel Prototype to showcase your design
  • Declaration files document contains the following information:
    • Stock Photos Name and Links from allowed sources
    • Stock Art/Icons Name and Links from allowed sources
    • Fonts Name and Links source from allowed sources

Source Files

  • All source files of all graphics created in Sketch, Adobe XD, or Figma and saved as an editable layer

FINAL FIX

  • As part of the final fixes phase, you may be asked to modify your files, add or remove screens or combine details to create a final presentation

Please read the challenge specification carefully and watch the forums for any questions or feedback concerning this challenge. It is important that you monitor any updates provided by the client or Studio Admins in the forums. Please post any questions you might have for the client in the forums.

How To Submit

  • New to Studio? ‌Learn how to compete here
  • Upload your submission in three parts (Learn more here). Your design should be finalized and should contain only a single design concept (do not include multiple designs in a single submission).
  • If your submission wins, your source files must be correct and “Final Fixes” (if applicable) must be completed before payment can be released.
  • You may submit as many times as you'd like during the submission phase, but only the number of files listed above in the Submission Limit that you rank the highest will be considered. You can change the order of your submissions at any time during the submission phase. If you make revisions to your design, please delete submissions you are replacing.

Winner Selection

Submissions are viewable to the client as they are entered into the challenge. Winners are selected by the client and are chosen solely at the client's discretion.

Your Design Files:

  1. Look for instructions in this challenge regarding what files to provide.
  2. Place your submission files into a "Submission.zip" file.
  3. Place all of your source files into a "Source.zip" file.
  4. Declare your fonts, stock photos, and icons in a "Declaration.txt" file.
  5. Create a JPG preview file.
  6. Place the 4 files you just created into a single zip file. This will be what you upload.

Fonts, Stock Photos, and Icons:

All fonts, stock photos, and icons within your design must be declared when you submit. DO NOT include any 3rd party files in your submission or source files. Read about the policy.

Screening:

All submissions are screened for eligibility before the challenge holder picks winners. Don't let your hard work go to waste. Learn more about how to  pass screening.
