Challenge Intro

Have you ever played the game Mad Libs?

For those you that haven’t played -

Mad Libs consists of a book that has a short story on each page with many key words replaced with blanks. Beneath each blank is specified a lexical or other category, such as "noun", "verb", "place", or "part of the body". One player asks the other players, in turn, to contribute some word for the specified type for each blank, but without revealing the context for that word. Finally, the completed story is read aloud. The result is usually comic, surreal and somewhat nonsensical.”

To try a Mad Lib yourself, check out this website as an example of what you’ll be required to do.

Challenge Description

It’s February, which means that Valentine’s Day is right around the corner.  In honor of this “love”ly holiday we have decided to launch this fun Valentine’s challenge to our developers.  You will be writing a story that surrounds the theme of Topcoder and Valentine’s Day.

Your mission if you choose to accept it:

-  Build your own MadLibs webapp!
Your app should begin by asking for a minimum of 7 inputs (nouns, verbs, etc).  Whether this is asked one at a time or all at once is up to you.

-  Once the user finishes and presses the “submit” or “complete” button, a story written by you will be displayed with the user’s words inserted in the order that they were asked in.  Those words should be enhanced or highlighted somehow so the user knows where their words were used.

Target Audience:

The Topcoder community is the audience. We want to share our love for the community with this short story that you’re going to create with the help of their words.

Judging Criteria:

Presentation:  Does the webapp have character?  It does not need to look professionally designed, but should look like you put effort into what it looks like.

Creativity: Was the final story written in such a way that it hit the topics of Valentine’s Day and Topcoder?  Was the final story funny to read a loud?

Final Submission Guidelines

Include all your files in a zipped folder with a readme file that instructs the judge how to open and operate your app.
