Challenge Summary

Welcome to Mediafly - NC Mobile Application UX Design Concepts Challenge! In this challenge, we are looking forward to your help in coming up with the creative designs for the NC Mobile Application on iPad & iPhone devices.

Nightingale-Conant is expecting creative and UX design for this mobile app, which will be used by young professionals looking to find inspirational or career-enhancing content. You could refer (http://www.nightingale.com) for more details about Nightingale-Conant. This application will be built and deployed on mediafly theme, which will be accessed by end user on iPad or iPhone only (responsive application for iOS8 on 2014 iPad and 2014 iPhone).

We have provided a design requirements document as well as sample mediafly screens from previous mediafly Appirio sales kit challenge to help you understand better on mediafly theme. We are looking for you to provide design concepts and click-paths based on the provided requirements. Good luck and we are looking forward to your submissions!


The NC mobbile application theme will be built on Mediafly Interactives Framework (http://www.mediafly.com, http://devdocs.mediafly.com/interactives). We would require following pages and click-paths as per the requirements on both landscape and portrait views which supporting responsiveness for iOS8 on 2014 iPad and 2014 iPhone.

Required Pages:

1. Login Screen:

  • - We need to see the following text boxes on the page
    • Email
    • Password
    • Forgot Password link
    • 30 days trial link (link to 30-days free trial page)
    • Button for submitting the details
  • - On success it will redirect to Content Navigation page.

2. 30-days free trial:

  • - Create a new page named 30-day trial.
  • - Following requirements need to be addressed in this page:
    • We need to use a banner for showing on this page and this banner is available by calling Mediafly API - (show placeholder banner for now).
    • Enter your email address to start your free trial.
    • [Email Address] <<< Verify via webservice call.
    • On success, it will redirect to Content Navigation Information regarding Content Navigation page.

3. Hamburger menu fly out:

  • - Menu icon should float on every page
  • - Tapping on the menu icon should open the Menu
  • - Tapping on the menu icon again should close the Menu >> Menu should contain following menu items
    • Search (link to content navigation page)
    • Select Categories
    • Log out

4. Content Navigation:

  • - Content is in the form of audio segments within a specific product, such as:
    • Product: Lead the Field (Note: Each Product will have a ProductID metadata field on a Folder)
      • - Segment 1 (Note: Segments will be the Items within the Folder of the Product), Segment 2, Segment 3, ... , Segment N
    • And each Product has one or more authors (Note: Author will be a metadata field)
  • - Navigation should provide views (see points # 5,6,7,8 below) to:
    • Allow users to select topics of interest (i.e. Category)
      • - e.g. Sales, Business, Motivation, Spiritual Growth
      • - Save the selected categories to localdata for future browsing
    • Allow user to browse the content within  the selected Categories
      • - Within each category show @Featured content in a special way
    • Allow users to browse the Author of the Product
    • Allow the users to browse the Authors in the Category (i.e. Authors that have a Product in the Category)

5. Home Screen:

  • - Show list of categories with image (and image)
  • - Ability to edit the list of categories (e.g. a pop up the first time the user enters the app asking them what they are interested in. And then future maintenance of that filter via hamburger fly out option)
  • - Show list of featured products (image, title, 1 line of description text and then “...” ?)
  • - Show list of featured authors (image, name, 1 line of description text and then “...”?
  • - Clicking on category, product or author takes you to those respective pages

6. Category Screen:

  • - List the products in this category (image, title, segments, author)
  • - Highlight the featured products
  • - List the authors that have products in this category (linkable)

7. Product Screen:

  • - Product image
  • - Product description (expandable if its long)
  • - Product segments (audios or videos)
  • - Additional materials (e.g. pdf workbooks that is also in that product folder)
  • - Author (image, name, 1 line of description). Linkable to the respective author view. (note that there can be multiple authors on a single product)
  • - Show the categories that this product is in. Linkable to the respective category view(s)

8. Author Screen:

  • - Author image
  • - Author description (expandable if its long)
  • - List the products by this author (with images, 1 line of description) and linkable
  • - List the categories this author has products in (linkable)

- Young professionals looking to find inspirational or career-enhancing content

Judging Criteria:
- How well you plan the user experience and capture your ideas visually
- Cleanliness of your graphics and design

Submission & Source Files:
Preview Image
Please create your preview image as one (1) 1024x1024px JPG or PNG file in RGB color mode at 72dpi and place a screenshot of your submission within it.

Submission File
Submit JPG/PNG for your submission files.

Source Files
All original source files of the submitted design. Files should be created in Adobe Photoshop and saved as layered PSD file, or Adobe Illustrator as a layered AI file.

Final Fixes
As part of the final fixes phase you may be asked to modify your graphics (sizes or colors) or modify overall colors. We may ask you to update your design or graphics based on checkpoint feedback.

Please read the challenge specification carefully and watch the forums for any questions or feedback concerning this challenge. It is important that you monitor any updates provided by the client or Studio Admins in the forums. Please post any questions you might have for the client in the forums.

How To Submit

  • Upload your submission in three parts (Learn more here). Your design should be finalized and should contain only a single design concept (do not include multiple designs in a single submission).
  • If your submission wins, your source files must be correct and “Final Fixes” (if applicable) must be completed before payment can be released.
  • You may submit as many times as you'd like during the submission phase, but only the number of files listed above in the Submission Limit that you rank the highest will be considered. You can change the order of your submissions at any time during the submission phase. If you make revisions to your design, please delete submissions you are replacing.

Winner Selection

Submissions are viewable to the client as they are entered into the challenge. Winners are selected by the client and are chosen solely at the client's discretion.

Submission format

Your Design Files:

  1. Look for instructions in this challenge regarding what files to provide.
  2. Place your submission files into a "Submission.zip" file.
  3. Place all of your source files into a "Source.zip" file.
  4. Declare your fonts, stock photos, and icons in a "Declaration.txt" file.
  5. Create a JPG preview file.
  6. Place the 4 files you just created into a single zip file. This will be what you upload.

Fonts, Stock Photos, and Icons:

All fonts, stock photos, and icons within your design must be declared when you submit. DO NOT include any 3rd party files in your submission or source files. Read about the policy.

All submissions are screened for eligibility before the challenge holder picks winners. Don't let your hard work go to waste. Learn more about how to  pass screening.
