This iPad application is very complex in that the amount of data that is accessible to users is quite large. We needed to define an architecture that could easily, and quickly, address all of the projects needs and requirements. TopCoder was able to effectively build an application that exceeded expectations.

DNA sequencing has revolutionized biological research and is set to transform medicine as well as this technology scales. Machines like Ion Torrent’s Proton sequencer will deliver a $1000 genome in a day. One of the keys to processing genetic data economically is compressing and decompressing the data with high efficiency, resulting in small file sizes and short processing times. TopCoder members were challenged to make the data storage as efficient as possible in both time and space.

Although electricians are masters of their art, some of the old “pen and paper” methodologies are holding back efficiency and limiting knowledge share within the industry. To appeal to next generation electricians, the customer wanted to build a mobile app solution for pipe bending calculations.

Ferguson is one of the largest wholesale distributors of plumbing supplies, heating & cooling equipment,
kitchen, bath and lighting products, and waterworks. When they decided to enter the B2B merchandising
industry, they were seeking to augment their existing creative and development resources, which were at
capacity with existing project commitments.

Reward Summit is a mobile application that helps customers maximize the rewards they receive from their existing credit cards and choose the best new card to match their spending patterns and lifestyle. The application needed to combine location awareness, social networking sites, a custom developed ratings engine (cloud hosted), and various other disparate sources in an intuitive user interface allowing the end user to seamlessly assess the best credit card to utilize for every purchase. The reports require multiple levels of “drill down” so retaining a simple and clean look on top of this complexity was a must. In addition, on boarding of new users requires a multi-step process for syncing credit cards, so the user experience needed to be as frictionless as possible to shepherd new users into the app successfully.

The TopCoder community was the key development resource that was used to build out this large scale project. Shepherding young minds into the areas of STEM education is a big challenge. Making the events inside a STEM education initiative free, fun and fully accessible can be even more of a challenge. Without a centralized platform, allowing for the scaling of the initiative to blossom, the Zero Robotics program was limited in how it could grow, and therefore how many young minds their important initiative could impact.
