About

Welcome to the Test for Success Challenge Series! Each week we will be launching a challenge with around 250 regression test cases or an exploratory testing challenge, which need to be executed on Android, iOS, and Web Browsers within 24 hours.

You read that correctly, there is no coding or designing needed in these challenges. All you need in order to qualify is to have the correct device and have good attention to detail when reading the challenge spec. Plus these challenges have TCO points too!

This series of challenges are going to be great for our new developers and lurkers out there who want to begin to get their feet wet in the Topcoder Community!

A great opportunity to get engaged with Topcoder this year!

WHAT MEMBERS SAY ABOUT
TEST FOR SUCCESS CHALLENGS

Working on the Test For Success Challenge series has been a great learning experience. Test For Success has helped me to bridge the gap between classroom/online theory and practice. The feedback I received helped to improve my understanding and knowledge of the test process. This series is ideal for someone who wants to learn/explore software testing or to improve their software development skills. This series will allow you to earn as you learn! My advice is to relax and have fun. Learn more about the app by playing around with it as if you are the end-user. Lastly, don’t be afraid to ask questions.

There are a lot of test cases to be executed. The prize for executing each test case is big and the test cases are well defined, which are easy to follow! All that the tester needs to do is to record videos, capture logs/screenshots on different platforms. Pretty straightforward!

FAQ

Still have some questions about how to continue with these challenges? No problem, many others
probably had the same questions as you do.

How To Compete?

Here is how to get started! If this is your first time participating in the Test for Success challenge series, click the ‘Register’ button on the challenge page. After you register, you will be able to see the challenge forums. Please take time to read the challenge spec carefully before you go to the challenge forums.

To read the documentation for this challenge series, please use this self-add link to add yourself to the Gitlab group. After you have been added, you will be able to access the challenge repo. Please read the documentation carefully if this is your first time participating; this repo is available even when there is not a challenge running. We will also add challenge-specific information in this repo as well, organized in subdirectories by the challenge date. These links will also be available in the challenge forums.

In the forums, look for the thread called “Jira Access Request”. To be added to Jira, reply in the forum thread with your email address. Please note that you will not be able to see the Jira project for the current challenge until just before the submission start time. Once you have been added to Jira, you do not need to request access again.

What is Jira? Jira is an issue tracking software that we are using to house the test case tickets for the Test for Success challenge series. We have a collection of video demos walking you through how to use Jira here. You can also try it for free by creating your own trial account (but beware: we use some additional plug-ins to help us with this series).
