If you are like me, you just can’t stop watching those ALS Ice Bucket Challenge videos! They are all over Youtube, Facebook, my grandmother’s blog and the local country club. At Appirio and topcoder we take helping out worth causes seriously. Well… we are serious about helping out but we always have fun doing it. Our Silver Lining program just wrapped up an #icebucketchallenge campaign. We had 51 people participate by posting photos and videos while donating to ALS. We raised over $1000 for the cause.
Why do we take ALS, and charities in general, so seriously? With 600,000+ members globally, these issues affect everyone in our community. One one of our earliest members, JacoCronje from South Africa, lost his father to ALS. Jaco is taking the Ice Bucket Challenge a little more seriously than most and has published his own video to promote the cause to Afrikaans.
There’s an App for that!
We wanted to make it easy for people to keep track of ice bucket videos so we put the topcoder community to work. It’s a chore to keep up with the latest news and videos. I don’t want to search RSS feeds, follow people on Facebook or subscribe to multiple Youtube channels. I want my ice bucket challenges is one centralized place where I always know where it’s at… just like my TV remote. My guess is you do too. So, we ran the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge Aggregator for iPad to make your life easier. The app aggregates the latest news, information and videos on ALS Ice Bucket Challenges into one centralized place for your viewing pleasure. There’s even a “Donate” button when you feel inspired.
Even our own Dave Messinger has contributed to the cause with a little help from his assistant:
