How did you first get started with Topcoder? What was your “beginner” experience like?

I know TopCoder from my junior at the university, [h]Izhari[/h]. He tell me there was a contest logo in Studio TopCoder, and I joined the challenge. Starts from 2007, many challenges are not as tight and complex as now, such as logos, printing, t-shirt, and a simple storyboard, and I was lucky to follow TopCoder since 2007, and I got a lot of experience.

Congratulations on becoming the TCO15 Design champion! Tell us a little bit about what those 9 hours were like during the finals.

This is my documentary of the 9 hours 🙂 9 Hours Worth $8K

What was it like having the Design Championships in your home town?

It was like a dream come true! I never expected I Joined Studio, never expected a full timer in studio, never expected winning four titles, never expected championships in my home town also the winner. Thanks God for all the sweetest journey in Studio TopCoder!

Are you planning to compete again for 2016 and what do you think it will take to become a finalist again?

I compete the championship since a college student until become a busy father of my two kids. Honestly I still have no plan for 2016, I just follow daily challenge that I can compete. We’ll see.

What design project types do you consider yourself to be an expert with? (web design, wireframes, UX, etc) and why do you like those?

Honestly, I love challenge such as web design and UX without wireframes. Very challenging, sketching with pencils, a cup of coffee, thinking for solutions, watch my kids activity, such a lovely day.

Tell us about your hometown or country. What’s the one thing a visitor should see if they traveled there?

We have thousand Islands and warm weather. Bali is place for tourism, religious and modern living in harmony, you guys should visit.

How did you first get started with Topcoder? What was your “beginner” experience like?

I started with TopCoder in college looking for practice with Algorithms. It was amazing! Competing with so many top-class coders was a humbling experience. I started on the development track few months ago and got instant success. The best part about it is working on so many real-world applications which expose you to a very different set of problems.

What challenges have you been interested in lately, and why?

I am involved with the SkyZone series currently and worked on the SunShot series before that. Every challenge that I have participated in has taken enormous effort and has left me with an improved skill-set. There are so many new things I learn with every new challenge that I take up!

What languages/platforms do you consider yourself to be really good at and why do you like those?

I like working on Android and .NET. The possibilities that these ecosystems provide are endless, for the simple reason that the number of consumers on these platforms today are huge. There is immense opportunity of growth on these platforms in India.

Tell us about your hometown or country. What’s the one thing a visitor should see if they traveled there?

I come from Dehradun in the northern part of India. If you are in town, you must stop by Rishikesh for the breathtaking natural beauty, white water rafting and yoga camps.

How did you first get started with Topcoder? What was your “beginner” experience like?

I started in my last year of high school. It was very different from everything I tried before, and I struggled to get our from Div. 2 for some time. But after getting some experience (and installing plugins:)) it all started going much smoother.

You had a rating increase in each of the three SRMs of September. You also participated in TCO round 3B, and while you didn’t advance to the finals, you still saw a rating increase in that round as well. In fact, you were the ONLY participant in all four rounds to see a rating increase in each! What tips would you give other competitors who are trying to improve?

I noticed that I often perform better when my sole purpose is to enjoy the competition. On the other hand, focusing too much on the goal of increasing the rating usually makes me fail. So, make sure you enjoy the contest and the problems you’re facing!

What languages/platforms do you consider yourself to be really good at and why do you like those?

I have lots of C++ practice (thanks to contests), and scientific programming (Matlab, R). Recently I’ve been enjoying latter a lot – nothing beats interactive shell for debugging purposes.

Which industry (Financial, IT, Healthcare, Entertainment, etc.) do you have the most experience developing for both within Topcoder challenges and outside Topcoder?

IT

Tell us about your hometown or country. What’s the one thing a visitor should see if they traveled there?

I’m from Kyiv, Ukraine. If you visit it in summer, make sure to stroll through the parks on the high right bank of the Dnipro river – it is amazing.

How did you first get started with Topcoder? What was your “beginner” experience like?

I knew topcoder from my best friend, [h]Jeniroxy[/h] (topcoder designer of month June 2015). Jeny was the one who introduced me to topcoder and he had guided me since then. At first I was having difficulties on how to interpret brief and make the design as my education background is earth science and English is not my first language. I spent more than 15 hours each day to learn how to design, but that was worth it since I believe where there’s a will there’s a way.

You won your first challenge during the first month of membership! Do you have any tips to share with other new members?

I have always considered every challenge as a learning process so I won’t be disappointed even if I failed the challenge. If I did win the challenge, I considered it to be a bonus. Perhaps this is the reason I enjoy doing these challenges.

What challenges have you been interested in, and why?

Mediafly – NC Mobile Application UX Design Update, because it was my first challenge and I did win it. I did the challenge using a low-spec netbook without prior experience in mobile app design. I don’t own a iPhone/iPad so I didn’t even know how the real UI/UX experience on iOS was like.

What design project types do you consider yourself to be an expert with? (web design, wireframes, UX, etc) and why do you like those?

I prefer web and mobile app design since I was having more interaction with it compared to other challenge.

Tell us about your hometown or country. What’s the one thing a visitor should see if they traveled there?

I live in Lampung, Indonesia. Indonesia is famous for its friendly people, culture diversity and its wonder of nature. In Lampung we could visit Anak Krakatoa island, a newly growing Volcano island since Krakatoa’s 1883 eruption, and its beautiful underwater view. There’s also Kiluan bay where we can see dolphins population. We could also find a variety of culinary made from bananas like banana pie and banana chips.
