October 30, 2017 Get Spooked with These 10 Haunting Tech Trends

#1: Self-driving cars

Smart? Sure. Spooky? Absolutely.

#2: Robots

Remember that time this real-life robot told a human being, “Don’t worry, if you’re nice to me, I’ll be nice to you”? Because I sure do.

#3: Amazon Key

With Amazon’s new Cloud Cam and a compatible smart lock, you too can let a stranger into your home to deliver a package.

#4: Chatbots

I like an automated conversation as much as the next introverted techie, but we all know what can happen when a major company introduces the internet to their new AI chatbot.

#5: Drones

Whether they’re spying or delivering packages, there may never come a time when drones aren’t spooky.

#6: Proximity-based dating apps

Animals mate in captivity, and you can now mate with… your neighbors, the guy in line behind you at Starbucks, and so on.

#7: Smart homes… in general

Case in point: Disney’s 1999 movie Smart House, in which a smart house rebels against its residents. We can’t say we weren’t warned.

#8: Remote work! Thanks to real-time collaboration tools like…

Slack, Trello, and Google Hangouts. What’s haunting is that I can do my job and pet my dog at the same time.

#9: The iPhone X

Simply put, there’s nothing spookier than a phone that starts at a thousand dollars. (Heed my warning: if it’s not too late, buy the iPhone 8.)

#10: VR and AR

Oculus Rift and Google Cardboard have brought virtual reality into our homes and hands — with everything from touring cityscapes to semi-interactive horror movie-like games. (Haunting? Check.) And Pokémon GO, while wildly entertaining, had people crashing into parked cars while trying to catch a Charizard.

Sufficiently spooked? All that’s left to do is stay ahead of the latest trends by getting design and development work done through Topcoder.
