  • does not include Algorithm, TCHS, or any other competitions in which the rules do not require assignment

Assignment 2.0

We recently updated the assignment document (Assignment 2.0), with the goal that members will only need to complete this ONE assignment from now on, with no other signatures or electronic affirmations. In the future, some competitions may require submission of the Assignment prior to submission of a competition entry.

Please download and review version 2.0 of the assignment document, and if you have any questions, please raise them here (TopCoder) or here (TopCoder Studio) or email questions to payments@topcoder.com.  If you understand and agree to the assignment, please complete all information requested at the bottom, and submit the document to TopCoder.

How to Submit

You may submit the assignment document by email, fax, or mail.

For submission by email, send a clear and legible scan or photo of the entire page (completed, signed, and dated) as an attachment to payments@topcoder.com.

For submission by fax, you may fax the completed, signed, and dated form (without a cover sheet) to:

  • (Poland) +48 (22) 485.3022
  • (US) +1 (860) 371.2165

Transition to Assignment 2.0

Our planned timing for transition to Assignment 2.0 is as follows:

  • Now through (date TBD): the final new assignment may be completed and submitted but is not required
  • April 21: new assignment will be required for Studio competitions. Contest submissions will not be accepted from members who don't have their new assignment completed starting on this date.
  • June 10, 2008: new assignment will be required for payment in all competitions except for Algorithm, TCHS, and most Marathon matches

More Detail on Assignment 2.0

Here's an explanation of some of the changes in Assignment 2.0:

  • Affirmations will no longer be required once changes to the TopCoder infrastructure are in place. Instead of affirmations, the assignment of a competition submission is triggered by payment or TopCoder allocating funds available for payment pending completion of payment requirements.
  • The assignment now specifically includes reviewers
  • Going forward, all competitions are included in the assignment except for those competitions in which the rules do not require assignment.  This allows TopCoder to add new types of competitions such as Bug Races without changing the assignment.  The rules for Algorithm, TCHS, etc. now have a statement that assignment is not necessary.
  • The license that is in the competition rules to allow TopCoder to publish all submissions on the web site, is now included in the assignment document in paragraph 4.
  • With some revised wording, members represent and warrant that:
    • the submitter is the sole and original author, designer, and inventor of each Submission
    • there is no material from any other person in a Submission unless specified by TopCoder
    • all Submissions are free and clear of all claims or demands of third parties, including without limitation intellectual property rights
    • the submitter is not obligated to assign or transfer rights in Submissions to any other party
    • the submitter is legally able and entitled under the laws of their jurisdiction to enter into the Assignment and to grant to TopCoder the rights described in the Assignment
  • Additional language added to paragraph 6 includes the provision to allow delivery by facsimile or electronic copy, and language that this assignment supersedes any other TopCoder competition assignments.

Again, if you have any questions, please raise them here (TopCoder) or here (TopCoder Studio) or email questions to payments@topcoder.com
