Truveo wants to set the top developers in the world loose with the APIs to search and index a hundred million video clips and challenge you to build the next great video Truveo application. Now's your chance to show ‘em what you got for a piece of $100,000 in prize money!

Truveo indexes millions of videos and makes them searchable and organizable through a wide variety of criteria, and all of Truveo's functions can be accessed through its API. Many sites have implemented simple search boxes using Truveo and others have gone much further. Let's show them how far the TopCoder community can go!

We will award nine (9) $10,000 prizes and twenty (20) $500 prizes for the most creative, successful and ingenious submissions - plus we'll give a TopCoder/Truveo T-Shirt to anyone who submits. We'll put your app within the reach of millions of users!

If you're not already a TopCoder member, register here, then register for the Truveo Developer Challenge.

Check out the API's at developer.truveo.com, sign up for a free "Director's Account" and get a usage key - your unique identifier giving you access to the Truveo network. The keys let Truveo know how popular your application is, which will play a big factor in your overall score. Each time you obtain an API key add "/topcoder" to the URL you provide when you sign up - or let us know by emailing us at service@topcoder.com - Even if you never use it in an app, we want to show how many API Keys are being registered by TopCoder members.

Then build a widget, a gadget, a mashup, a web application - whatever you want - and put it somewhere where we can see it. You can put it on your own site or blog, or any one of the social network sites such as Facebook, MySpace, Friendster, BEBO, Cyworld, Skyblog, Hi5, Orkut, or Live Journal - anywhere where web users can play with it and give us the URL with your submission so we can make it public. Remember, the more web users your application gets, the better chance you've got to win.

You may enter as many unique submissions as you like, but each individual submission should have its own unique API key. You are also free to update and upgrade your submission through the duration of the contest (and after if you want). You don't need to resubmit, just let us know you've updated your app, and we'll update your submission information for you.

How to Submit

Once your app is live, submit it to the contest.

You will need to submit a zip file to TopCoder which includes 2 items:

• A text document containing:
  • Your TopCoder handle name
  • Your unique Truveo API key
  • A title and brief overview of the application to be used as an online description
  • Most importantly, a link to the URL where the application can be viewed/downloaded
• An image file (jpg, or png) containing a screengrab or graphic representation of your application (no larger than 300x300 pixels).

Submit early, then tell a friend - in fact, tell a hundred friends, because a large percentage of your score will depend on how many people use your app.

How Your App will be Scored

Submissions will be judged by the Competition judging team. Submissions will be evaluated using a scorecard that includes the following criteria:

• Usage (20%): Usage will be determined based on usage statistics. It is strictly prohibited to manufacture or attempt to manufacture usage in any way. Usage and activity shall be subject to audit by TopCoder and/or Truveo.
• Innovation (20%): Determined by the Competition judges
• Best Use of APIs (20%): Best use of the functionality provided by the Specified Technology
• Truveo favorite (20%): Popularity among Truveo staff
• TopCoder Community Favorite (20%): Popularity among the TopCoder Community

What You Can Build

Anything you want!

Do something creative using the Truveo API. We'd love to see widgets, or gadgets for Microsoft Vista or Apple OSX, or something for a portal like MyYahoo or iGoogle, or any of the social networking sites. Build your own site, build a plugin for AIM - whatever you can dream of we want to see it.
