Mission: To build a global medium as central to people's lives as the telephone or television....and even more valuable. We have a wide variety of projects, nearly all focused on building the size of AOL's audience on the web. Our goal is to move AOL into a new era, focused on free, standards-based web products and technologies. AOL has the largest and most-engaged audience in the online world. Our innovation and development of products are some of the most visible products on the market today.

Projects: AOL's flagship set of web applications (Mail, Address Book, Calendar and Instant Messaging) - delivering the next generation of Web based communication for millions of AOL and AIM users every day. AOL Pictures is designing and implementing major subsystems using Java server technologies on Unix (Linux/Solaris) in support of new, improved functionality in the very competitive area of online digital picture management and sharing. AIM Pages is an exciting new way for you to create and share your own personalized web page. AIM Pages are made of modules - small web pages that can be embedded easily into other web pages.

Here are a few of the products we own or work on in Mountain View. ...and in case you didn't know, all of these and more are free for AIM members.

Projects: The AOL Seattle office is 100% dedicated to wireless development, and we're working on cutting-edge wireless data solutions that will change the way people use their cell phones and hand held devices. We are building a unique startup-oriented team dedicated to creating a digital wireless infrastructure to connect consumers to information and content in an easy and user-friendly manner. As a solid team of just over 100, we can preserve the small-company atmosphere while still benefiting from the many corporate assets of AOL: a world-class technology infrastructure, extensive user base, the many AOL services such as AIM, AOL Music, etc., and the media assets of TimeWarner.

Dublin, Ireland

Projects:

  • Personalization:
Personalization is about people, getting to know them and customizing their experiences to their likes, passive personalization is the process of learning about people from what they do, not what they say they do. Artificial Intelligence and its application in this space is an Edge Technology and not everything is known. For AOL, there are several advantages to Personalization, we will enable or empower our users to reach the "Long Tail" in what they are searching for, Create a sticky experience that gets people to what they want with minimum fuss, from the Advertising perspective there will be a model that will benefit from this information and offer users what they are interested in, making adverts relevant and less of a nuisance.
  • MSRP (Modular Search Results Platform):
The MSRP platform is an open framework, web content delivery system. MSRP pages are made up of defined modules that will render content from various sources depending on the defined source for that content. MSRP controls data traffic from the user through the routing system and back, using any display generation format supported by the framework. MSRP uses a Response Analysis Engine (RAE )module to decide dynamically, how to arrange data from the data source infrastructure for any given user, thus brings the capability to customize each web page view by a user, dynamically.
  • Search 7.0:
The latest version of AOL's search application, 7.0 is currently under development, this product will change dramatically the way search results are delivered, it is optimized for high-speed users who will get great Web search from Google, plus relevant multimedia results — pictures, videos, sound clips, local information and more all on one page. With the new AOL search the idea is that users will be able to search less and discover more.
  • Quotes and Portfolios:
This actually represents a collection of personal investment management tools for the AOL Money and Finance channel. These products deliver company stock price and detailed information almost 1 billion times per day, and provide portfolio management tools for 12 million portfolios, used each month by over 2 million of our users.
