"...Your application must incorporate at least two of the five most popular and valuable AIM features below into their web-based or downloadable AIM software and mashups..."
Is this an absolute requirement (what I have in mind really doesn't have alot of GUI part and certainly not a web page part - it kinda provides some great glue between AOL's actual IM client and something else).

If there's no UI then there's no requirement to use 2 of the 5. We'll clarify this here and in the full contest rules shortly.

I have a couple of question about requirements:

1. Any application from an operating system to a Mac widget that use any api from http://dev.aol.com/apis would be an eligible submission?

2. About the AIM features to include:
* An ad to appear alongside AIM
* AIM Toolbar
* AIM Expressions, including wallpapers and buddy icons
* Buddy Info
* Display AIM Dashboard (http://dashboard.aim.com) as start page at launch

Can you explain more in detail what kind of implementation do you expect from each one?
For example if I put an icon downloaded from AIM Expressions in my application, is that feature included?

I think that including 2 features will be hard and very restrictive, because they are all very different and not all apply for any kind of application. For example if you make a widget you must discard AIM Toolbar and AIM Dashboard as start page, and an AIM ad maybe will take half of the space of your widget.

Apologies for the confusion over these requirements.

Plugins and Bots are exempt from these requirements.

To make this easier for everyone, submit your URL, with or without any of the 5 implemented. We will review the submission and advise you in the forums of how you could meet the requirements.

Would it be helpful for me to get some real examples of implementations of each of the 5?

That would definitely be helpful.

AOL_Nic,

I upload my first submission today (Submission ID 1012 - IMLoud.zip), can you check if do I meet the requirements?

And I'm having some problems trying to upload my plugin in the AIM gallery, it looks the file size limit is 5Mb. but my plugin installer size is 11Mb. So, there is any option to publish/upload my submission to the AIM Gallery?

Thanks in advanced.

dhbellol:

Congrats on a Great submission,

AIM plugins are exempt from the requirements as they automatically meet all 5 of the requirements by being in the AIM client.

I will check into the gallery.aim.com, it was supposedly set to 15mb, even if the popup message states something different. Are you using the same AIM screen name as the key that is being used for the plugin?

Hi,

I have some questions about the requirements :)

One feature I'll be using in my mashup is OpenAuth. Is this considered to fulfill any of the requirements?

Browsing through the aim dev pages, it's difficult to find what I'm looking for. For example, I simply wanted to find out what the aim dashboard is, and how I can integrate it, but found no info. The same for the toolbar or buddy info.

Could the coordinator be so kind as to post some set of URLs in this regard? I'd hate to implement some feature, which would turn out to not even fulfill any requirement...

Thanks very much!

And those examples of implementations of each requirement that were mentioned over a week ago would still be helpful...

We have updated the aim developer site to hopefully answer your questions. The screen shots are still coming, but I wanted to share this at least.

http://dev.aol.com/aim/terms

The whole site has been updated, its more logical and descriptive.

Please let us know, If there is anything specific you need answers to.
