Our HP IDOL OnDemand community is ramping up and we want you to get ready to compete in some really cool challenges by signing up for an IDOL OnDemand account and checking out how cool and powerful these APIs are, and how easy they are to use. 

As an incentive to signing up with IDOL OnDemand, getting your API Key, and learning the basics for IDOL OnDemand, we are launching this egg-hunt challenge sweepstakes challenge.   All members who complete the following steps and submit to this challenge will be elligable for a $250 prize! 

TIP You're not really looking for a real egg, but you will need to find the correct company name in order to complete the last step successfully. :)

Final Submission Guidelines

Step 1 - Sign up for an IDOL OnDemand API Key

For more info, visit the HP IDOL OnDemand community. The process is simple:

1. Sign Up for IDOL OnDemand and specify that you are a [topcoder] member during the process:

2. Once you've successfully signed up and logged in, go to Your API Keys in the Account section and rename your API Key to "topcoder". This will identify your API calls as part of the [topcoder] program.

 

Step 2 the egg-hunt - Check out the APIs

The IDOL OnDemand APIs are very powerful and easy to use.  Once you’ve created a developer account, you can use their online tools to test the APIs directly from IDOL OnDemand’s API catalog page.

For this challenge, we want you to play around with these APIs directly.  In order to participate in this challenge, we want you to use just a few of the APIs and complete the following steps.  They are easy and fun and NO Coding Necessary - simply use the IDOL OnDemand’s online Try and See Explorer console.

1. Log Into IDOL OnDemand using your account or new account.  You will need an account to complete these tasks.
2. Run the OCR try and see example for OCR PDF
3. Copy the text from the response body
4. Go to the Entity Extraction try and see console and paste in the text from the OCR example response and look for “companies_eng”
5. Copy the response text for “companies_eng”
6. Go to the Find Related Concepts try and see, and paste in the “normalized text” response text from “companies_eng” into the text box
7. Copy the curl results from "Make this call with curl" and paste into a document that you submit with your entry into a document and include in your submission.

 

Employees and direct and indirect subcontractors of Hewlett-Packard Company and its subsidiaries and other affiliates (“HP”), and employees and direct and indirect subcontractors of HP’s partners (including TopCoder and its affiliates) are not eligible to participate in the challenge.

Winners of previous IDOL OnDemand Sweepstakes Challenges are also not eligible for prizes for this challenge.
